If you are always looking for something different for your garden, Gladiolus Murielle, is amazing. Gladiolus Murielae is a beautiful spike leaf bulb, native to the mountain areas of East Africa. It grows an awesome 2 to 3 feet tall with white star-like petals and a dark purple center and throat. The multiple buds graduate up the top of the stem with an almost vanilla like fragrance. Gladiolus Murielae likes consistently moist, well drained soil, and full sun -growing more commonly in zones 7 to 10. However, in zone 5, I will be digging up the corms and storing them in peat moss in my cool back room over the winter. Similar, perhaps, to a dahlia.
My garden, textured, variable, full of surprises.
Much like a life - well worn - with many facets, unpredictable.
Embracing and rolling with the punches teaches hard lessons that we wouldn't have chosen otherwise.
I find answers in my garden - the act of working the soil, pushing through the rocks, changing and enhancing our surroundings, nourishes us and creates wonder and contentment.
I just drove through the mountains today - the air so fresh - the green cradling you in the distance. Nature, however wild, imperfect, and unruly is worth visiting time and time again.
Something aged, established, like a garden, can be exciting and full of character, personality, and lovely imperfection.

One of my daughter's birthdays is coming up. She is about to go off to college so I've been trying to do special things for her all week. Can you tell she will be missed? This is a present we wrapped for her in one of my first fabric designs applied to wrapping paper, "Tassel".
In the background is a watercolor painting I have completed for a commission project.
We will be selling Verde Cosi garden, home, fashion textiles and fine art at Chatham Festival of the Arts August 17, 18, 19, 2018. Come see what's new!
Working on some new watercolors for a new commission project. Here are some highlights of our days plein air painting. From the days of painting with my Mother as a small girl, I love doing the same with my daughters.

Collecting shells by the ocean is one of the lovely things from my childhood that I will always remember. As I look back I realize this is possibly one of the things that taught me to observe nature. Look closely and you will find angel wings in one of my photos. I have always collected sea urchins but I have never seen so many mini ones all at once by the shore as this past weekend!
Please visit us at Guilford Craft Expo July 13, 14, and 15, 2018! Verde Cosi will be selling our garden inspired wares with a breeze of the ocean mixed in. Enjoy!
Some of my most detailed, subtle as well as graphic fabrics were chosen for this lovely family of five in Connecticut, who commissioned Verde Cosi to design window seat cushions and pillows for two rooms. We kicked off the project in December and delivered at the very beginning of April 2018. We started off by consulting with our customer in their home with my many fabric samples. Monica chose Verde Cosi "Delicate Flower" for her guest bedroom's window seat cushion and pillows. The existing rug had a bit of light ocean teal in which we combined in some of the pillows in a solid linen. I added details like fringe and pom poms to the hand made pillows. The cushions are wrapped in down feather for added softness. The pillows are down feather as well. The exterior fabrics are 100% linen.
For the dressing room nook Monica chose Verde Cosi "Camille Burst" fabric in a deep blue/grey with hints of dusty purple in the design. I created a mini pillow with fringe and scented the pillow on the inside with organic lavender. For back support and comfort, I designed a short lumbar pillow with fringe details. The dusty purple and grey compliment the light brown shelving in the dressing closet. Verde Cosi "Camille Burst" fabric also added a spa feel to the sunken tub area just outside the dressing closet.
From personalized name pillows, to soft, oversized, fun Verde Cosi "Brigitte" and "Camille light blue mini burst" pillows. The children were as happy as their parents when I walked through the door with Verde Cosi cushions and pillows to cozy up their loving abode.
We are currently booking commissioned fine art and upholstery with Verde Cosi products. Please contact us through our main website http://www.verdecosi.com to book a consultation today. We currently work on the East coast of the United States.
There is an exceptional number of blossoms in my garden right now. I clipped some from each plant to share with you. Lots of color! The red in the avens plant is just the right shade of red. I could be converted to a red lover with this one! There are English bluebells, succulent blossoms, azaleas, lily of the valley, alliums, poppies, hibiscus, red avens, clematis, salvia, flowering maple, nasturtium, and more! I could spend days observing the details of these flowers. I love how my camera helps to magnify the tiny details of each plant.
My new fabric has many of these colors, it is being printed right now. I may have it for the Newport Flower Show coming up at the end of June. Verde Cosi will be a Home and Garden Vendor selling our handmade, garden inspired home goods, art, and plants. Martha Stewart, will be there promoting her new book, "Martha's Flowers"
This weekend, Sunday June 3, 2018, I will also be selling my original watercolor paintings at Beacon Hill Art Walk, in the historic Beacon Hill in Boston, MA!
Hope to see you there!
Spring is late to our area and it was so refreshing to see these photos of my mock oranges in my garden from last June. We are honored to have been invited to be an Artisan Vendor at the Museum of Fine Arts "Art in Bloom" show and marketplace April 28 - 30, 2018. Please see verdecosi.com for details!
I scraped the dirt and cried for more
thrust my head through the branches
left the world aside for a little time
became my childhood friend
and visited the answer
I reached around the branches
and shook the hibiscus
the bucket growing with discarded leaves
I needed to continue
my hair mixed with the leaves
the lantana grew

Sipping a margarita during the height of summer in Newburyport, we discovered Gayle. The upholstery project that followed was a synergy of ideas and inspiration to breathe new life into her existing furnishings. Gayle immediately understood that I design Verde Cosi fabrics from my botanical drawings and paintings - she only needed to touch my pillows to appreciate the unique quality of the linens I use. As always with every project we have a goal to add joy and a feeling of natural light to our customers' interiors. We partnered with a local upholsterer who is willing to see an artist's vision and create the unexpected. Here is a look at the chairs, sofa, and hand made pillows. The fringed pillows are one of a kind pieces I designed and sewed especially for Gayle. We are currently scheduling upholstery work and fine art for 2018. Be inspired! Suzanne Ahrens
"Ruffled Winter"
A poem by Suzanne Luby Ahrens,
Water flows through the ruffled,
softening the mist
window remains cold, trust for a better day
essential life brings clear thrive
tray arranged with a decorative cup
air grows wilder, rough
check at a glance innocence task
greet the eyes beyond life's guise
beads embedded in the thread
shed wilt, gather met
